A new study released by the Federation of Canadian Naturists (FCN) at the 39th World Congress of the International Naturist Federation (INF-FNI) in Zipolite, Mexico, reveals that a significant number of Canadians are open to naturist activities. The study, conducted by Ipsos using a nationally representative sample, examined Canadians’ experiences and attitudes toward naturism and nudity. Findings show that 57% of respondents have or would sleep in the nude, while 46% are comfortable walking around their house without clothes. However, participation in public naturist spaces like nude beaches (10%) and naturist resorts (2%) remains much lower.
Interestingly, 70% of Canadians believe people should have the right to sunbathe or swim nude at designated nude beaches without government interference. FCN’s Stéphane Deschênes, who is also the president of INF-FNI, is quoted in the above article emphasizing that naturism promotes body acceptance and counters the negative effects of body-shaming prevalent on social media.
The 39th World Congress of the INF-FNI is now over.
The main achievement was to adopt new statutes and rules – the governing documents of the INF-FNI. These were adopted unanimously after a lively discussion. It’s an important step in modernising the INF-FNI.
We also agreed to conduct a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) to help determine the future direction of the organisation. We decided to reshape our external communications strategy by creating a team, and and elected Hector Martinez to oversee this role.
Following discussion, it was agreed that the draft statement of naturist values required more work and a small working group was appointed to improve it. We aim to agree this in writing with the member federations so it can be adopted sooner rather than later.
Stéphane Deschênes was re-elected as president for a further period of 4 years, alongside vice-president Dominic Dufour and other elected officers of the organisation.
And Sieglinde Ivo was appointed as an Honorary President on her retirement after 16 years in the role of president of the INF-FNI, and longer in other roles on the central committee.

Celly de Reydt, the Premiere, Her Husband and Photographers Also Accused
BERLIN, Jan. 10.- Naked dancing went on trial in the Criminal Court today. The principal in the case is Celly de Rheydt, the pioneer in dancing of this type, and the codefendants are Celly's husband, Sewelch, a former First Lieutenant, who was originally her impresario and still acts as manager for his wife in her undraped dancing; Celly's ballet of five young girls, the youngest 14; the motion picture photographers who filmed the nude ballet and the "still" photographers who made picture postals of it, none of which would be permitted to pass through the American mails.
The case, which is a cause celebre for Berlin, opened in a fitting setting today. Five learned Judges were on the bench, with a battery of eight lawyers for, the defense entrenched in front of Celly and her dancing girls. The State's Attorney is supported by one lone, shocked witness so far--a certain Pastor Hoppe--and a flock of professors as experts in the morality of the art, including Professor Max von Schillins, one of the most distinguished living German composers, best known for his opera "Mona Lisa" and Director General of the Opera House. The general public was excluded, but reporters and representatives of children's welfare organizations were admitted.
The Presiding Judge first ordered a motion picture of the nude dances thrown on the screen which had been stretched in the courtroom, frequently stopping the reel for a closer examination, as well as to identify the defendants shown on the screen and to quiz them regarding exactly what articles of clothing, including beads, gauze streamers, &c., they had worn at each stage.
The questioning of the Court elicited the information that at first the dancers were relatively clad above the waist, but as the ballet went on their bodies were compeletely exposed. In the case of the last dance shown the Court's queries as to costume were superfluous, for Celly was flashed on the screen in the altogether.
On account of the heated atmosphere in the overcrowded courtroom the Court called it a day's work and decided to order a view,"in camera", of the original live ballet production, with music, at a local theatre on Thursday.
What is alleged to be the most offensive dance is a pantomime in which Celly appears, first fully clad as a mediaeval nun, who suddenly goes mad before a crucifix, sheds her nun's clothing completely and proceeds to execute a dance symbolic of delirium. This dance was actually performed in public repeatedly in 1919, until the flood of protests, principally from Catholics, on the ground of profanation and sacrilege, caused Celly to withdraw it from her repertoire. American visitors who have since seen her modified "beauty dances" say they never saw anything like them before. Among these American art experts were pillars of the community, mostly with wives and families across the Atlantic.

Θα περιγράψω τα γεγονότα με χρονολογική σειρά κατά προσέγγιση αποφεύγοντας ακριβείς ημερομηνίες για την αποφυγή λαθών.
Φυσικά την εποχή του 1920 με 1930 ήμουν αγέννητος και βασιζόμενος σε διηγήσεις των παλαιότερων της τότε εποχής περιγράφω τα γεγονότα.
Ήταν τότε που υπήρχε αυστηρός διαχωρισμός στις παραλίες των λουομένων ανάμεσα σε ζώνες ανδρών και γυναικών. Οι άνδρες μακρύτερα φορούσαν μαγιό αποτελούμενο από κοντό παντελόνι έως τα γόνατα στηριζόμενο με τιράντες.
Οι γυναίκες μακρύτερα και σε μη προσβάσιμη θέση ακόμη και οπτικά φορούσαν ένα είδος νυχτικού έως χαμηλά στα πόδια. Η πρόσβαση απαγορευόταν αυστηρά.
Μεταξύ του 1950 και 1960 άρχισε να φοριέται το γνωστό μαγιό ολοσωμο και τύπου κοντό παντελόνι (σορτς) αντίστοιχα. Έως σημερα σε μερικές περιπτώσεις.
Η συνύπαρξη μεταξύ ανδρών και γυναικών στις παραλίες τότε άρχισε να κάνει τα πρώτα δειλά της βήματα. Πολλοί γονείς δεν το δεχόνταν λόγω προκλητικής σχεδίασης της ένδυσης που σκιαγραφούσε τα γεννητικά όργανα. Γι'αυτό απαγόρευαν στα κορίτσια τους να πηγαίνουν για μπάνιο.
Ερχόμαστε χρονικά μεταξύ 1965 και 1970 όταν εμφανίστηκε το μπικίνι που άφηνε ακάλυπτο μεγάλο μέρος του γυναικείου σώματος. Αυτό προκάλεσε μεγάλες αντιδράσεις με λίγες φωνές που έλεγαν ότι αυτή η ένδυση το μπικίνι είναι για λόγους υγείας. Κάνείς δεν άκουγε.
Ακολούθησε το σούπερ μπικίνι με αθρόες αντιδράσεις, το γυναικείο τόπλες και σταδιακά οι πρώτες δειλές εμφανίσεις γυμνιστών στην Ελλάδα (πάντα) κυρίως στη Μύκονο, η οποία γνώρισε τουριστική άνθηση κυρίως γι'αυτόν τον λόγο, έως σήμερα.
Ακολούθησαν οι απαγορεύσεις με ποινές προστίμου και αφαίρεση διαβατηρίου επί επταετίας για όσους έκαναν μπάνιο γυμνοί.
Προφανώς υπήρξαν παρεμβάσεις στην τότε κυβέρνηση από τους ηθικολόγους. Μόνη εξαίρεση, παραδόξως, το νησί Αντίπαρος στις Κυκλάδες.
Τα γεγονότα που ακολούθησαν γνωστά από τις δύο πλευρές. Στη χώρα, αλλά και στο εξωτερικό.
Εκτός αυτού έχουμε εξελίξεις αποδοχής απο την εγχώρια κοινωνία και σε άλλα θέματα: Αποποινικοποίηση σχέσης εκτός γάμου, καθιέρωση πολιτικού γάμου, σύμφωνο συμβίωσης, αμβλώσεις, προστασία μητρότητας για ανύπαντρες μητέρες, γάμος ομόφυλων ζευγαριών σήμερα κ.λπ.
Με την πάροδο των χρόνων γίνονται αλλαγές από γενιά σε γενιά. Το ιδιο και οι αποδοχές τους κατά ένα μέρος ή οχι πάρα τις αντιδράσεις των ηθικών που πολλές φορές για να καλύψουν τις δικές τους βρωμιές κρύβονται πίσω από το δάχτυλο τους για να μην εκτεθούν.
Όλα αλλάζουν είτε αρέσει είτε όχι.
Ο αγώνας συνεχίζεται για την αποδοχή και την ελευθερία του γυμνού. Γυμνισμος ίσον ελευθερία.
